Producer of the Month – TG Larson Farms
How it all Began
TG Larson farms, which consists of Tim, Greg, and Todd Larson, is a family owned and operated grain operation in southeastern North Dakota. While the farming business skipped a generation, Todd had grown up with grandparents who were a part of the ag industry. Sons Tim and Greg are now a large part of the operation, which began as Johnson & Larson Partnership. Jeff and Kendall Johnson made the decision to step back and allow the Larsons to take over. The Johnsons; however, are still very involved and are a tremendous help during the busy seasons of spring and fall.
What is your favorite part of being in the agriculture industry?
Todd: Farming is one of the most rewarding jobs that there possibly is. It’s a lot like raising kids.
Tim: I don’t think there is one thing about it that I don’t like…even picking rock!
Greg: You get to be outside all the time and never stuck doing the same thing every day.
We don’t think of it as a job. It’s so much easier to do the work if you enjoy it. The one thing we have always had is help. Labor has never been a problem for us and that is one of the reasons why we are as efficient as we are. We are very fortunate to have the Johnsons involved.
What is the best part of raising your kids on the farm?
It’s teaching them how to work. There are jobs that need to be done and you don’t even think about it, you just get it done. Growing up, you learn fast that if you want something, you need to work for it. A lot of good lessons can be learned on the farm – especially safety. For the most part, if we’re sitting in a tractor cab, the kids can come with. There’s not a whole lot of jobs that you can bring your kids to. Every one of our kids enjoys riding in the machinery. When we’re busy from the time the ground thaws to the time it freezes, it’s nice having the ability to bring our kids with during the busy seasons.
How do you foresee spring planting going?
If we can clear up a lot of this snow by mid-April, we’re still optimistic. It would be great to get going the first week in May! With the amount of snow we have gotten, we need a slow thaw – nothing too quick.
What do you like about working with Full Circle Ag?
Brad has just been terrific. We get pretty hands-on service from him. Any questions we have, he answers. If he doesn’t know the answer, he knows how to get them. Full Circle also carries a lot of products that we use and if we need something in a hurry, he’s right there to help us out.
