Groton FFA Chapter Update

Feb 24, 2021

In Honor Of National FFA Week, We Have Decided To Capitalize On Our Area FFA Chapters.

Groton FFA: Groton, SD

We took some time to check in with Adam Franken, Groton FFA advisor, to see what they have planned for National FFA Week:  “For FFA Week this year our chapter has a few activities we are planning.  While we have had to do things a little differently this year because of COVID, we are grateful that we are able to do some things to promote FFA and educate people about agriculture.  We are planning on having a tractor day where the students drive tractors to school as well as an Ag Safety Day where the officers will present safety demonstrations to students in the elementary school.  We are also planning on holding an Agriculture Olympics with the junior high students and provide the teachers with a breakfast on Friday of FFA Week.”

We here at Full Circle are always excited to hear about the successes of FFA members.  Here’s what Mr. Franken had to say about what his chapter has accomplished this year: “This year has been different due to COVID.  We have not been able to do many of the activities we usually do.  However, we have been able to participate in a few events and activities.  In the fall, we were able to have a Pork Loin Supper fundraiser at a football game as well as have a float in our homecoming parade.  Some of our members also participated in the virtual Leadership Development Events (LDE).  The Groton FFA members competed in Parliamentary Procedure, Creed Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Employment Skills LDEs.  Tessa Erdmann placed 5th in the state in the Employment Skills LDE while Samantha Pappas place 2nd in the state in the Extemporaneous Speaking LDE.  The seniors FFA members also completed their State Degree and Star Award applications.  Our chapter has 9 seniors receiving their State FFA Degree and 3 members that placed 1st in the district in their Star Award area:  Samantha Pappas – Star Agriscience, Tessa Erdmann – Star Farmer, Sage Mortenson – Star Placement.”

Goalsetting is important for these students on an individual and chapter basis.  Of the goals for his chapter, Mr. Franken says: “Our current goals for our chapter are to qualify teams and individuals for the State FFA Convention that will be in April in Rapid City. We also want to continue to advocate for agriculture by providing opportunities for our members to demonstrate their knowledge of agriculture practices and safety.  Another goal we have is to increase the involvement of our members to increase their leadership and career skills.”

It’s great to hear about all of the good things coming from the Groton FFA Chapter!  The Full Circle team wishes them good luck on the rest of the year!
