It's That Time of Year

Oct 28, 2019

This crop year has been an interesting one, to say the least. We all want the remainder of harvest to go as smooth as possible and making certain there are no diesel fuel issues is one of our top priorities.

Don't Wait

It’s no secret that diesel engines are temperamental in cold weather. Every year, we all get an unwelcome reminder of this. Whether you’re just getting started with harvest or are in the midst, no job is getting done if cold weather gets the best of your equipment.

We’re here to help remind you of a few important factors involving your diesel fuel to help your harvest go as smooth as possible.

Two issues are critical to ensure properly blended fuel:

1. Following the recommended treat rate
2. Blending fuel and fuel additives above the cloud point

Important

It is important to remember to never blend cold flow additives into diesel fuel that is already at or below its cloud point. It will have no effect on your fuel.

Keep in Mind

Doubling the treat rate typically won’t have negative impact, however it may not improve operability. Tripling (3x or higher) the treat rate is unlikely to improve performance, but you risk the possibility of negatively (raising) impacting the operability of the blend. When doing so, you are possibly adding to your cost without benefit or possibly causing harm when adding too much cold flow improver. In the case of an extreme additive overdose, it is possible the additive won’t blend properly and can actually plug a filter.
