    As of this morning, tensions seemed to have eased with North Korea.  Yesterday, President Trump's announcement of scrapping talks between the two countries turned commodity markets lower.

    Cash corn prices remain near post-harvest highs for this week, being supported by improving global fundamentals and planting delays in the northwestern Midwest. Parts of southwest Minnesota and Northern Iowa have barely turned a wheel for planting corn.

    In the latest USDA Grain Supply and Demand report, which was released Thursday, reflects a fairly sharp decline in new crop corn stocks. This is due to acreage declines compared to 2017.

    China, weather, and crop conditions once again are the dominating factor in our markets. Continued talk of trade wars are an everday occurence.  China is the world's top buyer and consumer of soybeans, with the bulk of them used for their huge livestock herds.

    The US Crop Progress report showed corn is 5% planted vs 14% average, but the weather forecast is favorable going forward for field work. Sorghum buyers in China are actively lobbying the government to exclude those cargoes afloat before the tariff was applied.

    Basis levels continue firm for corn.  The Pacific Northwest export market firmed up, due to the increase in export demand.

    On Monday, the weekly crop condition report sparked a buying spree in Hard Red Winter Wheat, which in turn, brought buying into the grain complex moving these markets higher as well.
