July Leadership Updates - Ehren Grupe, COO

Where did spring go? Oh, that’s right, it was that week around May 1st, and then it’s been summer ever since.  What a whirl wind it has been!

First off, I would like to thank our employees for their hard work and dedication to serve our patrons' needs in this highly compressed spring.  They committed themselves to this company and serving our growers selflessly while sacrificing time away from their families.  I also would like to thank their families for the sacrifices they made to help us serve our patrons.  We are fortunate that while working 80-100+ hour weeks, we did not have any major incidents.  Thank you, again, for your dedication.

I would like to thank our patrons for your business and patience as we all muddled through this spring together.  It truly was a team effort.

As we look forward, safety continues to be our priority and our safety committee is working on some projects with our local communities' first responders.  These projects range from CPR training, grain engulfment, to active shooter trainings.  We all like to think that it won’t happen in our towns, but sadly enough, we are not immune to that environment.  It is our goal to keep our employees safe at work as well as in their everyday lives.

We will be breaking ground on a new office at our Hecla agronomy location this month with completion by fall.  We will have updated photos as we progress on our website and social media.  For those customers in that area, be sure to stop in and check it out.

It’s hard to believe, but this time of year we are already planning for next year with chemical programs and fertilizer.  Without getting political, this year is an exception to past years with trying to have that magic wand of what the future holds.  At this point, it does not appear that we will reset the fertilizer market as much as we were hoping to.  I will leave this vague in saying I do not believe there to be any sense of urgencies right now; but if you have questions, feel free to talk to our sales staff.  Not only are we looking at those items, but also looking at our budget and fixed asset projects for the 2019 fiscal year.

I will wrap this up by once again thanking our employees for their dedication to this company and our patron owners for your business.  Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer.
