Fuel for Thought - January 14, 2019

The weather has turned milder as far as snow storms go, but the temps are a little more seasonal. Sounds like about the middle of next week it will get chilly with highs in the teens and lows in the single digits either side of zero. It is winter in South Dakota!

A little different scenario with the energy markets. They’ve been pretty hot. Since the first of the year the bulls have taken over. Crude has come back about $5 or so from its low and heating oil has come back .10-.15.  Today is the first down day of the last eight. I believe the markets are betting with the fact that the US and China are still in trade talks and some sort of agreement will be made. The fact that crude inventory was down less than expected and products were up way above expectations doesn’t seem to weigh much on the markets this week. Although prices are up I still think it would be a good idea to fill and/or buy out your tanks. I’m afraid by the time spring rolls around prices are going to be considerably higher.

A quick note from the safety department…as the weather stays below freezing make sure to check your sewer vents to ensure that they don’t freeze up. Also those of you with a high efficiency furnace vented out the side of your house make sure the exhaust vent does not freeze up also, if it does your furnace can’t breathe and will not work.

Thanks for your patronage and think spring!!
