Producer of the Month - Bergh Farms

Jul 11, 2018

July 2018 - Bergh Farms

"What do you have planned for today?"
"I'm not sure. I'll find out when I get there."

One of the most satisfying aspects of farming is that you partake in a different task every day. As a producer, you might think you have your day set in stone; but by 9:00, everything can change. Depending on the markets, environment, and mother nature, every day brings something new.

For Bergh Farms, this has most definitely been the case the past few months. "I don't think we've sat down since May 1." Randy and Brian have been going non-stop for at least two months straight. Thankfully, their hard work has visibly paid off. The above picture is their very first field of corn they planted this year - May 1 to be exact. "The best part of this business is you get to see the results of what you do and how you do it. When you take your time and do the best you can, you can see your hard work pay off. It's just so rewarding." There is nothing better than seeing the physical result of your early mornings, late nights, and relentless hard work.

Although the uncertainty of mother nature and markets are inevitable obstacles that producers encounter, it's rewarding to know that your hard work provides food for millions of people around the world. If that's not a satisfying career, I'm not sure what is. And for that, we thank you.

Brian and Randy are brothers who have been farming together since day 1. Neither of them have ever worked for anyone else in their entire lives. Having this unique characteristic, the hard work instilled in them since they were younger has not only provided them with an immense amount of experience, but they have also seen the ups and downs of farming throughout the years. One of the things they have experienced is the patronage and experience with working with local cooperatives. Having somewhat local control of what goes on in the agricultural environment is one thing they view as an importance of cooperatives.

Listening to what the growers are asking for and great customer service are a few things that are extremely important to Bergh farms and we are thankful to be working with them to help accomplish their goals. We wish Randy and Brian the best of luck this growing season and are sincerely thankful to have them as our July 2018 Producer of the Month.
